MYT02 Death Of Ferdia
Cu Chulainn, the great warrior hero of Ulster, was a demi god, the son of Lugh and Dectire. He was raised at the court of Emain Macha by his foster fathers Fergus Mac Roigh and King Concobhar of Ulster. Ferdia Mac Damån was a warrior from Connaught Both young men were trained in combat by the renowned warrior woman Scåthach in Scotland and Ferdia became Cél Chulainn's greatest friend, like a brother to him
Following King Concobharls betrayal of the three sons of Uisneach over Deirdre of the Sorrows, Fergus of Ulster and his warriors switched allegiance to Queen Maeve in Connaught Ferdia was also a warrior in Queen Maeve's army. When Maeve's army invaded Ulster, the Ulstermen were all incapacitated due to a curse that had been laid upon them by Macha and Cé Chulainn singlehandedly defended Ulster's borders at the ford at Ardee, slaying all Maeve's champions.
Ferdia was Maeve's best warrior and Maeve tried to bribe, cajole and threaten him but Ferdia refused to fight against his friend and foster brother Cé Chulainn. Eventually Ferdia reluctantly agrees to fight and Ferdia and Cu Chulainn battle for three days at the ford/ with CO Chulainn finally killing Ferdia with the Gae Bolg, a magical spear he had been given by Scåthach in Scotland. Following Ferdia Is death CO Chulainn is distraught and weeps bitterly over his friend's body.
