MYC609 Aengus And Caer

Aengus Óg, the Tuatha Dé Danann god of love and youth, and associated with the ancient monument of Newgrange (Brú na Bóinne) in Ireland. Aengus fell sick with longing after a mysterious maiden Caer Ibormeith: who was the daughter of the fairy prince Ethal Anbuail and she visited him in his dreams every night for a year, playing sweet music on a timpan (a small stringed instrument). When he woke and tried to touch her, she vanished. Dagda and Bóann (goddess of the River Boyne), searched Ireland for a year, and later enlisted King Bodb Derg of Munster, who spent another year tracking her down, and finally found he att the Lake of the Dragon's Mouth (Loch Bél Dracon) in Connacht.Caer Ibormeith, a powerful Otherworld maiden and lived a dual existence, spending one year as a human woman and the next alternating as a swan every Samhain (Halloween). When Aengus goes to the lake to find her, he is told he can only marry her if he can pick her out from a flock of 150 identical swans, He correctly identifies Caer as a swan, transforms into a swan himself, and they fly away together, singing a magical song so beautiful it puts all of Ireland to sleep for three days and three nights.
