GCGD46 Fedelm
Fedelm (sometimes spelled Feidelm; modern Fidelma) is a female prophet and fili, or learned poet, in the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. She is specifically known for her central role in the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), where she foretells the disastrous war against the hero Cú Chulainn.
She was a member of an elite class of poets in Ireland, and later Scotland, up until the Renaissance. The filid were believed to have the power of divination, and therefore able to foresee, foretell and predict important events. Fidelma is a traditional Irish female name, primarily derived from the Old Irish word fidel, meaning "faithful" or "loyal". It is often interpreted as "the faithful one," with roots also suggesting meanings like "ever good," "constant," or "enduring.
