AW10 Cangleska Wakin, The Sacred Circle
"Sacred Circle" or "Hoop," is based on the Sioux concept that everything in the universe is intertwined and that all things that exist are connected in one continuous process of growth and progression. Upholding The values of ceremonies, storytelling, songs, religion, bravery, respect, wisdom, generosity, the four directions, Mother Earth, Father Sky, teachings from elders, and that everything which is good and holy is represented in the shape of a circle.
In April 2016, I had friends that were involved in the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests or the Standing Rock Protests, that were a series of grassroots Native American protests against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline in the northern United States. I am often asked about the meaning of this art, my only answer is to find your own interpretation, and I have been surprised of how many ideas have come up. For me it was purely tapping into the energy unfolding with the event and what developed into the art.
